Look mom, I made it.
I found out this fun picture, taken at the StyleForum 10th Anniversary party, was published in issue 22 of The Rake magazine.
Now when I’m 70 years old and my grandchildren look me in the eye and ask if their grandfather ever had a WIWT published in a menswear magazine, I can nonchalantly reply with a grin, “WHAT IN THE WHAT? I’M WATCHING MY STORIES.  ASK GRANDMA.”

A Day At The Baths
When you’re exploring the ruins of the world’s former largest indoor swimming pool establishment, you should probably wear some older clothes that can stand up to the sea.
Also, breton stripes.

WIWT: Skeet Shooting Round 2 (with patterns)

This past weekend my girlfriend and I once again returned to the Pacific Rod & Gun Club for another wonderful clandestine dinner hosted by the crew at Stag Dining.  We both had a lot of fun at the last dinner and were very excited to to come back for another round of delicious food and skeet shooting.

The weather in San Francisco was absolutely gorgeous this past weekend with temperatures up to the mid 70’s.  However, not all of San Francisco gets this hot and the area near the gun club was more near the mid 50’s.  This meant that I had one last opportunity to wear this terrific Tokyo Foxhunt jacket that I picked up from Gant Rugger before retiring it for the season.

I really enjoy the pattern of the fabric, which I personally feel is a nice statement piece without being too overbearing.  The problem with wearing a bold pattern jacket is that it starts to limit the amount of patterns one can wear.  Because I opted to wear a checked sports shirt„ I decided to wear a solid grenadine maroon tie so that I could introduce new textures into my outfit without worrying if introducing a third pattern would clash.

While I didn’t see any foxes out on the field, I did go five for five during my round of shooting.  Maybe it was because I kept both eyes open while aiming or maybe it was because I didn’t have to worry if my tie clashed with the rest of my outfit.

Probably the former.

Knit Caps Are The Best
While it was snowing during the beginning of my trip, the sun finally made an appearance towards my last few days in Paris.  Although it was bright out, the weather still remained pretty chilly.  It’s amazing to see how much warmer you feel with just a simple knit cap on.  Looks like mom was right.

Tweed in Napa
I really enjoy wearing tweed whenever I can and driving around wine country is the perfect opportunity to do so.  These trousers are special ordered from Epaulet New York during one of their factory find selections.  As I’ve said before, if you are looking for a really nice pair of trousers, I would highly recommend Epaulet New York.

Valentine’s Day

I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine’s Day yesterday.  When it comes to Valentine’s Day, I normally see people wearing outfits that reflect the color of the day such as red and pink.  I’ve done it in the past myself, but this year I decided to try out a different color scheme.

I recently purchased this Gant by Michael Bastian tweed blazer and really enjoy the glen plaid check pattern with the blue and green overcheck.  Not only is it a nice blazer, but it gave me a good color palette to base the rest of my outfit around.

For trousers, I decided to wear my Epaulet New York blackwatch Walt trousers, which I thought went rather well with the blue and green overcheck.  I absolutely love the fit of their slim Walt and would highly recommend anyone to check out Epaulet if they’re in the market for some well-made trousers.

Lastly, I decided to go with a purple Drakes cashmere tie.  I would have worn my tried-and-true blue grenadine, but I decided that I wanted my tie to stand out a little more.  I’ve also started wearing a hat more these days, but that’s a post for another day.

Wine Tasting Outfit Redux
I spent January’s three-day weekend in Napa for my birthday where I was fortunate enough to dine on some delicious food and wine.  I have some posts coming up regarding the trip, including recommendations on places to eat and drink, but in the meantime, here’s what I wore to the vineyards.
I also heard residents of Napa make fun of people for this pose.  Oops.

WIWT - Holiday Party Edition

My girlfriend and I went to a holiday party this past Saturday that was hosted by the folks over at The Bold Italic.  It’s always important to remember that even though you’re dressed up, you’re still allowed to have some fun.

WIWT - Thanksgiving Edition

I’m originally from a small town in Northern California.  It’s the type of town that’s surrounded by orchards and where wild chickens roam freely along the sides of roads.  As a result, it always feel more comfortable to dress more country here than in the city where the closest thing you have to a walnut tree is at Whole Foods.

I’ve blogged about my Barbour Liddesdale before, but I still believe that it’s a great investment piece.  You can layer a chunky sweater underneath it for when it gets really cold and wear it by itself otherwise.  Plus, at $179 (and even cheaper if you can find it on sale), it’s one of Barbour’s more affordable jackets.

Also, I slide on slides at the playground because fuck da police.

WIWT - Indian Summer Edition

Most people say that the cutoff date to wear seersucker is around Labor Day, which is when the weather traditionally starts to cool off.  However, I usually keep my seersucker and other summer clothes on standby because every year in San Francisco we experience an Indian Summer towards the end of September and beginning of October.  Usually lasting several weeks, the temperature can get up to 90 degrees, which makes it the perfect (and probably only) time to really enjoy summer fabrics.

Seersucker’s texture is created through a slack-tension weave, which creates the iconic alternating tight and puckered stripes.  This weave allows threads to bunch up, which keeps the fabric away from skin and allows for better heat dissipation and air circulation.  While seersucker is most commonly found in an alternating blue and white stripe pattern, I opted to go for a suit that was monochromatic, which gives it a more subtle appearance.

Unfortunately, it seems like San Francisco’s Indian summer was short-lived this year as the weather will drop to 60 degrees this weekend.  It looks like I’ll finally be able to pack this suit away until its next appearance in October 2013.

WIWTO - Downtown Cincinnati Edition
My girlfriend and I had to help her sister pick up some gifts for her bridesmaids in downtown Cincinnati.  I really dig all the artist installations, especially the graffiti murals, that are all over the place.  You should also check out Street Pops - a local popsicle joint that has unique flavors made from fresh ingredients.  I got the Peach Siracha, which was surprisingly more delicious than I thought it would be.
