Look mom, I made it.
I found out this fun picture, taken at the StyleForum 10th Anniversary party, was published in issue 22 of The Rake magazine.
Now when I’m 70 years old and my grandchildren look me in the eye and ask if their grandfather ever had a WIWT published in a menswear magazine, I can nonchalantly reply with a grin, “WHAT IN THE WHAT? I’M WATCHING MY STORIES.  ASK GRANDMA.”

Just picked up my brand new pair of 3Sixteen ST-100Xs from Self Edge San Francisco and am looking forward to breaking these guys in today.
Raw selvedge denim made from the Kuroki Mills of Okayama, leather tag by Tanner Goods, and complimentary chainstitching from a vintage Union Special chainstitching machine at the store.

A Day At The Baths
When you’re exploring the ruins of the world’s former largest indoor swimming pool establishment, you should probably wear some older clothes that can stand up to the sea.
Also, breton stripes.

Cable Car Clothiers, still handsome after 75 years.

Cable Car Clothiers hosted another fantastic menswear meetup in San Francisco last night.  I had a great time talking to a lot of new people, all while my cup of bourbon never seemed to run empty.  It’s really been fun to see each meetup grow larger in size, which really stands as a testament to the camaraderie of menswear enthusiasts.

Here’s looking to the next one!

The folks at Cable Car Clothiers will be hosting a terrific meetup for menswear enthusiasts tomorrow.  This is a great opportunity to meet new folks, enjoy some great conversation, and dust off that linen jacket you bought on Yoox in November.
There will also be free drinks and complimentary haircuts and shoe shines to the early birds who show up first.
Come out and have some fun!

For those of you looking to get a pair of high quality selvedge jeans, Self Edge is currently offering 13% off all denim in all their stores to celebrate the remodeling of their New York storefront.  The best thing about purchasing the jeans in store is that they offer free hemming via a vintage Union Special Chainstitching Machine.

Can’t make it out to one of their store fronts? Not to worry, Self Edge is also offering 13% off of denim at their online store as well.  Use code “ThirteenPercent” to get the denim discount and code “LeatherLover” to get 5% off all leather jackets (also available in store).  The sale ends at 5PM (PST) today, so get on it!

I went in this past weekend and picked up a pair of 3Sixteen ST-100Xs in indigo, which I’ll write a review about once I receive them.  If you need some more convincing, Derek has also written a nice review on them at Put This On.

WIWT: Skeet Shooting Round 2 (with patterns)

This past weekend my girlfriend and I once again returned to the Pacific Rod & Gun Club for another wonderful clandestine dinner hosted by the crew at Stag Dining.  We both had a lot of fun at the last dinner and were very excited to to come back for another round of delicious food and skeet shooting.

The weather in San Francisco was absolutely gorgeous this past weekend with temperatures up to the mid 70’s.  However, not all of San Francisco gets this hot and the area near the gun club was more near the mid 50’s.  This meant that I had one last opportunity to wear this terrific Tokyo Foxhunt jacket that I picked up from Gant Rugger before retiring it for the season.

I really enjoy the pattern of the fabric, which I personally feel is a nice statement piece without being too overbearing.  The problem with wearing a bold pattern jacket is that it starts to limit the amount of patterns one can wear.  Because I opted to wear a checked sports shirt„ I decided to wear a solid grenadine maroon tie so that I could introduce new textures into my outfit without worrying if introducing a third pattern would clash.

While I didn’t see any foxes out on the field, I did go five for five during my round of shooting.  Maybe it was because I kept both eyes open while aiming or maybe it was because I didn’t have to worry if my tie clashed with the rest of my outfit.

Probably the former.

J. Lawrence Khaki’s of Carmel

Last week I finally traveled south to visit J. Lawrence Khaki’s Of Carmel.  The long-established menswear retailer has received a lot of buzz lately regarding its private label and the launch of its online store.  I had been wanting to visit for quite some time and so when Jim Lawrence personally invited me to take a tour of the store, I eagerly accepted.

Khaki’s is located in the Carmel Plaza where it makes its home next to stores such as Tiffany & Co. and Kate Spade New York.  Inside, the store is simply stunning.  Running the full spectrum of the rainbow, gorgeous colors shine from the enormous stock of ties, pocket squares, and sports coats.  It might seem unbelievable that red, pink, yellow, green, and blue all go together, but when you see it on one of the mannequins that has been so expertly curated, it suddenly makes perfect sense.
