Lands’ End Canvas Waxed Canvas Field Jacket

When Lands’ End Canvas first previewed their Fall/Winter line, only one item caught my eye: the waxed canvas field jacket.  It seemed to be on another level compared to the other stuff Lands’ End Canvas normally makes, and I especially liked the burgundy (or “Burnt Ochre”) color.  The jacket seemed to make a huge splash in the blog-o-sphere when it was first shown off, but for some reason the hype around it seemed to fizzle out and it was never discussed again.

Anyway, I decided to pick up the jacket during the Black Friday sale and have to say that I’m extremely pleased with it.  I particularly like the 14-wale corduroy lining and the color is as good in person as it is in the press photos.  However, the thing that pleased me the most is that the jacket fits me perfectly.  I wear 38S in suit jackets, so I decided to go with the small.  The shoulders are spot on and the jacket has a slim profile while maintaining enough room for you to wear a few layers underneath it.  I was also really excited that the sleeves fit well too.  I usually have to get sleeves altered on jackets because I have shorter arms and I extremely happy that this isn’t the case here.

The jacket is $250 on the Lands’ End website, which I personally feel is a little much.  But with the Black Friday discount, I ended up paying $175 (before shipping/taxes), which I feel is more reasonable.  To give you some perspective, a similar jacket by Barbour runs around $400.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with this purchase as it exceeded my expectations.  I think this is a fantastic jacket and would highly recommend it, especially if you can get it on sale.
